Rotary International Club activities are divided among four "Avenues of Service" forming the philosophical cornerstones and the foundation on which the club is based.
While the Vocational, Community and International Service Avenues focus on reaching out to society beyond Rotary, the Club Service function focuses on strengthening fellowship and ensuring the smooth functioning of the club's meetings and activities. In its broadest sense, the Club Service function includes everything happening within the club.
At the Plano Metro Rotary Club, the Club Service responsibilities are divided among several club officers and committee chairpersons.
Mardi Gras Casino Night Chairperson: This position is filled by a club officer, the President-Elect for the upcoming Rotary year. Mardi Gras Casino Night is held in February, and is the single biggest Plano Metro Rotary Club function of the year, serving as the primary fundraiser for the following year’s external service activities.
Club Service Chairperson: Creates weekly club newsletter and organizes club social events such as the monthly Happy Hours at various Plano restaurants and the annual Holiday Party in December.
Programs Chairperson: Responsible for scheduling guest speakers at the clubs weekly meetings.
Membership Chairperson: Leads recruitment and orientation of new Rotary members.
Sergeant-at-Arms: In charge of keeping the "Fun in Rotary". At each meeting the SAA keeps members on their best behavior by levying one dollar fines for not wearing their Rotary pins, shamelessly promoting their businesses, and being featured in local publications without mentioning their Rotary International membership. The SAA also organizes the weekly "Joke of the Day", presented by members at each meeting.
